The purpose
of this web site is to give the researcher a jumpstart on finding Internet
information on the history of Old South from Pre-Colonial to Reconstruction.
The sites are selected because they link the user to multiple sites, archives,
biographical information, and more.
These guides were prepared
by Kingwood librarians and, while covering broaders areas than the south,
may be helpful. Select these or others from NHMCCD librarians at the
Subject

American History Sites Before 1860
American History from The Civil War (1860) to Present
T he journal directories
listed here contain links to history journals on the web. Some entire journals
and back issues are online, some journals contain only the table of contents,
and others have limited full-text. Good place to look - but it takes time.
Links to each state - not usually history - but the state libraries sometimes
link the user to good historic information. My personal favorite is the
Find a Grave site cataloged under Permanent Residents. :-)
These state sites also link you to colleges and universities which often
have put certain archives online. Check the "Archives" heading below.
This site is great for looking for information by state. Browse it - and
be sure and search the Research Room for links to American, Military and
Confederate research. While this is a primary site for genealogists, it
has much information for the researcher.

These web sites contain some of the best information - military, maps,
photographs, societies, local history, general resources and much more.

literature drawn from the splendid Southern holdings of the University
of North Carolina --Chappel Hill Academic Affairs Library.
Arranged by country, then state - these are links to university history
departments. Some have information stored there - some not. Be careful,
many first year students have their papers online.
This collection of documents on American History begins with Pre-Colonial
times and goes into the present. Arranged chronologically - it contains
copies of original documents.
The collections of links
found in the sites below should lead the user to just about everything
on the web. Find little jewels of information by browsing these sites.
A listing of over 2100 websites describing holdings of manuscripts, archives,
