The Dysfunctional Family

Psychology Internet Quiz - Questions
We ALL live in
dysfunctional families, right? :-) Our crazy old aunt wonders around with
her underwear outside her slacks.... our grandpa pinches pretty young girls.
Well, the Johnson family described here are a little over the edge. We
hope you enjoy finding out what makes them t-t-t-tick.
After all, a family with a cross-dresser, kleptomaniac, pyromaniac, drug
pusher/abuser, and manic-depressive are worth knowing.
The bonus for finishing this Psychology Internet Quiz is that the Johnson's
will make you feel your family is normal. Normal? What's that?

Mable Johnson,
mother of the Johnson clan, is a pyromaniac. Setting fires interests her
more than anything including her dysfunctional family. Fires can be so
gratifying! What are some of the symptoms of pyromania?
Mable's son,
14 year old Jimmy, likes to dress in his sister's clothes. According to
the DSM IV on cross-gender identity, what are some of the tell-tale signs
that Jimmy is devoping a serious disorder?
Mabel's Uncle
Billy Bob has an eleven year old son who has recently developed Tourette's
Disorder. The family would like to get him into a free study and treatment.
See if the National Institute of Mental Health (NIHM) has a clinical study
which Billy Bob, Jr. can get into.
Jimmy's brother,
Willie, steals from all of the local stores. Mable has had to go to K-Mart
and Target to get John after he has been caught taking toys. Dannon Kindler,
an expert on kleptomania, has written an article on it for Clinical
Pharmacology. Name the disorders which Dannon Kindler suggests have
a comorbidity to kleptomania. PubMed,
at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/htbin-post/Entrez/query?db=m will allow
you to search Medline for this article.
Bubba, Mable's
co-dependent husband, was brought up in a family of alcoholics where Bubba
watched after his alcoholic parents and learned to cover up the alcohol
use for fear of discovery. Is co-dependence a mental disorder? What are
some of the symptoms Bubba might show?
Aunt Cecilia
has multiple personalies. Sometimes she is a nine year old child, sometimes
a swinging thirties, and other times a strict disciplinarian. She is clearly
pregnant. How on earth is she going to raise a normal child?
What are some
of the symptoms of Aunt Cecilia's disorder?
Aunt Cecilia's
brother, Tim, has joined the Hare Krishna. What is this group and what
is their philosophy?
Aunt Cecilia's
sister, Sarah, is a beautiful girl. That is she used to be beautiful. One
day, a movie producer stopped her on the street and asked her to be in
his movie. She was thrilled but thought she better lose a few pounds. Now
she's down to 75 pounds. The movie producer has changed his mind. Think
of the disease(s) she might have and find out if she fits into the description
by DSM IV. Is she going to die? What is a support group she and her family
might join to help her?
I tried to
tell Uncle George, Aunt Cecilia's husband, how excited I was about the
baby. But, while we were talking, he suddenly fell asleep. He has been
falling asleep like this for many years. The doctor diagnosed Uncle George
as having narcolepsy. What are the chances of the baby inheriting his disorder?
Uncle George's
son by his first marriage is presently serving prison time in the state
prison as a sex offender. Can the treatment he is receiving rehabilitate
him?
Senators
Domenici and Wellstone spear-headed a bill which will be beneficial to
the whole dysfunctional family mentioned above. What was it and when does
it go into effect?
Cheer up!
You may be OK.
